1. AI Solved the Wrong Bottleneck
The problem: For years, the limiting factor in product development was building. Writing code, debugging, deploying, execution, that was the slow part. AI obliterated that constraint.
What actually happened: You removed one bottleneck and exposed another. Building was never the real constraint, learning was. You've always shipped faster than you could validate. AI just made the disparity impossible to ignore.
The consequence: Your product velocity looks incredible on paper. Features shipped per sprint is up 5×. But your decision quality hasn't improved at all. You're still making calls based on gut feel, the CEO's last customer conversation, or whoever was loudest in the room.

They don't start with "What can we build?" They start with "What can we measure?" Before a single line of AI-generated code ships, they know:
- What event will fire when users engage with this feature
- What success looks like (quantified)
- What they'll measure 7 days and 30 days post-launch

3. You're Shipping Features, Not Hypotheses
The problem: Most teams treat shipping as the finish line. Feature goes live → sprint closes → everyone moves on.
What's missing: No one articulated why this feature should work or what behavior change it's supposed to create. It's just "Customers asked for it" or "Competitor has it."
The consequence: You have no way to know if it worked. When usage is low, you don't know if it's a positioning problem, a discoverability problem, or if the feature itself is solving the wrong problem. You just... ship the next thing.

They ship hypotheses, not features. Every feature launch includes:
- The bet: "We believe that users drop off at checkout because the shipping cost isn't visible upfront."
- The validation: "If we show shipping cost on the product page, we'll see a 15% increase in checkout completion within 30 days."
- The measurement: "Tracked via checkout_completed event, segmented by shipping_cost_visible property."
This isn't perfectionism. It's accountability. If you can't articulate the hypothesis, you're not ready to ship.
4. AI Gave You Speed, But Not Judgment
The problem: AI tools make building so frictionless that the question "Should we build this?" never gets asked. The friction that used to force prioritization is gone.
What's broken: You used to debate whether a feature was worth 3 engineer-weeks. Now it's 3 hours, so you just... do it. No one's saying no.
The consequence: Your product is bloated with features no one asked for, solving problems that don't exist, because building them was effortless. And because you're not measuring, you never realize half of them have <5% adoption.
You've optimized for output, not outcomes.
What winning teams do differently:
They don't gate features on build effort. They gate on learning effort.
The question isn't "How long will this take?" It's "How will we know if this worked?"
If the answer is vague ("We'll see how users respond"), it doesn't ship. If the answer is concrete ("We'll measure feature_activated and compare retention cohorts"), it's greenlit—even if it takes 10× longer to build.
Speed without feedback is just noise.
5. Your Data Lives in a Graveyard, Not a Feedback Loop
The problem: Most teams collect data. Very few teams use data to make decisions.
Your analytics tool has dashboards. Someone set them up 18 months ago. No one looks at them. When you do, half the charts are broken because the underlying events changed.
What's missing: A feedback loop. Data → Insight → Decision → Action → Measurement → Repeat.
Most orgs stop at "Data." The insights never surface. The decisions never connect back to what the data said. It's a graveyard of information that no one acts on. The data exists. It's just not in the decision-making process.

Concretely, that means:
1. Instrument before you ship
No feature goes live without defined events, success metrics, and a measurement plan. This is non-negotiable.
2. Ship hypotheses, not features
Every launch includes: the bet, the validation criteria, and the timeline for evaluation.
3. Build feedback loops into your process
Sprint planning starts with "What did we learn?" not "What should we build?"
4. Use tools designed for this pace
Platforms like Amplitude let non-technical teams define events, run experiments, and get AI-generated insights without waiting on data engineering. You need infrastructure that moves as fast as your AI-assisted dev cycle.
5. Make "We don't know" unacceptable
