How Attentive Migrated 57 In-App Guides from Pendo to Amplitude

57 guides, complex segmentation, no prior Amplitude configuration. Full migration delivered on time: content, triggers, themes, audiences.

Key Achievements

  • 57 Guides Fully Migrated Before the Pendo Contract Expired

Every guide: including multi-step flows, element-based triggers, and account-specific audiences, was recreated in Amplitude and delivered ahead of the hard deadline.

  • Full Amplitude Guides & Surveys Setup Built from Scratch

With no prior configuration in place, Adasight set up the complete foundation: SDK, three custom brand themes, throttling rules, guide priority, and cohort targeting.

  • Complex Segmentation Solved with Dynamic Cohorts

Account-specific audience targeting was rebuilt in Amplitude using Attentive's groupCompanyId user property, replacing Pendo's audience logic with dynamic cohorts.

Blocked Segments Diagnosed and Documented

Segments dependent on Salesforce data and internal feature flags couldn't be immediately replicated. Adasight delivered a full findings document with root cause analysis and engineering recommendations.

  • Clean Handover with Full Documentation

A comprehensive handover document covered all migrated guides, cohort logic, theme configurations, and open items — giving the Attentive team everything needed to manage guides independently.

The Challenge

Attentive is a leading SMS and email marketing platform used by thousands of brands to drive customer engagement and revenue. With their Pendo contract expiring, they needed to migrate their entire in-app guide library: 57 guides, into Amplitude's Guides & Surveys product before the deadline hit.

The complexity went beyond a simple content copy. Guides varied significantly in trigger logic: element-based, automatic, and programmatic. Many used multi-step flows and account-specific audience targeting. Amplitude's Guides & Surveys product had never been configured at Attentive, meaning SDK setup, themes, throttling, and cohorts all needed to be built from scratch. And with limited documentation on the original Pendo setup, the engagement couldn't begin without a full audit.

The Process

Discovery & Audit

Before any migration work began, Adasight conducted a full audit of all 57 Pendo guides: documenting trigger logic, CSS element selectors, page locations, and audience segments for each one. A gap analysis identified which segments could be immediately replicated in Amplitude and which were blocked pending Salesforce integration or internal feature flag availability.

Configuration & Guide Recreation

All guide content and UI was rebuilt in Amplitude. Three custom brand themes were designed and applied across the guide library, aligned to Attentive's design system. Element-based and automatic triggers were configured using CSS selectors extracted directly from Pendo. Throttling rules and guide priority were set to match the original Pendo behaviour.

Audience Targeting & Cohorts

Dynamic cohorts were built in Amplitude for account-specific guides using Attentive's groupCompanyId user property. For segments that couldn't be replicated: those dependent on Salesforce data or internal feature flags, a detailed findings document was produced covering all discrepancies, root causes, and engineering recommendations.

Handover

The engagement closed with a full handover document covering every migrated guide, cohort configuration, theme setup, and outstanding items. The Attentive team had everything needed to manage and extend their Guides setup independently.

The Outcome

Attentive's in-app guide library — all 57 guides — was fully migrated from Pendo to Amplitude ahead of the contract deadline. Every guide was recreated with its original trigger logic intact, whether element-based, automatic, or programmatic, alongside full content, throttling configuration, and three custom brand themes built and applied across the library to match Attentive's design system.

Audience targeting was rebuilt in Amplitude using dynamic cohorts, replacing Pendo's segmentation logic without losing the account-specific targeting Attentive relied on. For segments that couldn't be immediately replicated due to Salesforce dependencies or internal feature flags, a detailed findings document was delivered covering root cause analysis and actionable engineering recommendations, giving Attentive's team a clear path to completing the remaining work independently.

The engagement closed with a comprehensive handover covering every migrated guide, cohort configuration, theme setup, and open item. Attentive left the engagement with a fully configured Amplitude Guides & Surveys setup and everything needed to manage and scale it going forward.
